I am delighted by life’s mysteries, magic and its perfect imperfections.
My favorite way to explore these delights is by working with wax on handmade rice paper. So much of the final outcome is left to chance even after all my careful deliberation and expertise. The temperature of the wax, the humidity that day, where the pigments in my colors decide to settle more deeply into the paper as they dry, how the paper absorbs the water and wax, all of these variables and more are out of my control. This leaves me, like the viewer, surprised and mystified by the images that emerge after the wax is melted from the paper.
