Death, Resilience and Hope 2018

Photograph, 60 x 50 cm

@ Peter McIlroy

A young girl is entranced by cormorants inhabiting a dead tree on the Boulder Bank near Nelson. For me this encompasses three themes: death, resilience and hope. Although the tree has succumbed to the heat, the cormorants are still doing their best to adapt to the change, whilst the girl represents hope. Our tamariki are our future, and we need them to observe and wonder about the world in order to change it.
