Says Volykhine “I’ve discovered the common thread in my paintings is not simply that I paint figures, but it’s the context in which those characters are placed. The works are all about the human condition’s history, past, present & future. The characters are indeed sometimes portrayed in a bad situation or predicament. My intentions are not to celebrate, glamorise or beautify their condition but just to depict it, and most times tell a story with a light at the end of the tunnel”.
